Tussar silk, also known as “Tussah” or “Kosa” silk, is a type of silk fabric that originates from the cocoons of the silk-producing caterpillar called Antheraea mylitta, commonly known as the “Tussar silkworm.” This type of silk is produced mainly in India, particularly in states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. Tussar silk is also produced in some parts of China and other Southeast Asian countries. Tussar silk has a distinctive texture and appearance compared to the more commonly known mulberry silk. The color of Tussar silk is typically a natural pale gold or cream, with variations ranging from beige to light brown. This is due to the fact that the Tussar silkworms feed on a variety of plants, unlike the exclusive diet of mulberry leaves that traditional silkworms have.
